Helsinki Explodes in FLOWERS OF EVIL Trailer

While Finnish director Antti J. Jokinen has spent years working with high profile musicians like Beyoncé, Missy Elliot, Shania Twain, Korn and many others, he's also been working steadily under the radar as a feature film director. After his only English language film, 2011's The Resident starring Hilary Swank and Jeffery Dean Morgan, failed to launch, Jokinen went back to Europe where he made a number of highly regarded films including The Midwife and Purge (Finland's official Oscar selection in 2012).

His latest is Flowers of Evil, a simmering and angry street film inspired by the 2012 Stockholm riots. The story follows two brothers who each take very different paths to deal with the challenges of living in a housing estate in Helsinki. Based on the film's first trailer below, it looks to be Jokinen's most energized and confrontational film to date.

Flowers of Evil premiered at the 2016 Shanghai International Film Festival 2016 where Antti J. Jokinen took home the top prize of Best Director. It will be released in Finland on September 30, 2016. There are currently no distribution plans in other territories.

Jokien is currently in production on the English language thriller The Bay of Silence starring Uma Thurman and Brian Cox.
